Take a vacation from ordinary. Plan a weekend, week or 2 week trip to Cuba, immerse yourself in dance, advance your skills and experience something extraordinary.
Designed by Karelia Despaigne, director of Tierra Kaliente, an internationally known dance company in Havana, Dance Intensives give you opportunities to focus on specific Cuban dances to advance your skills while learning from the source in the context of the culture where the dances originate.
As a discerning traveler whether you are a beginning dance enthusiast or an experienced dancer, you want the best. Dance Intensives connect you with professional level instructors that you usually only have access to on large specialized group tours. You can have the quality of a large group tour with the flexibility of traveling on your own.
Tierra Kaliente is one of the hottest dance companies in Havana. They have performed and taught Cuban dance in Europe, South America, and the United States. In Cuba, they have hosted travelers from France, China, Colombia, USA, Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Israel, United Kingdom, Australia, Chile, and Argentina.
Karelia Despaigne, the director, is described as being “on an entirely different plane” from other instructors. She teaches with precision and humor. For the dancers with Tierra Kaliente, dancing goes beyond learning technique – it is about spreading Cuban culture and connecting people through music and movement.
Kick off your weekend, week or 2 week immersion in Cuban culture and dance by joining your host at one of the famous concert venues in Havana. No experience or partner required!
Your days are focused on dance with 4 hours of exercises, instruction and practice split into 2 sessions. Training is 3 days on with a dance free day every 4th day. In each 3 day module, you will have 1 day with an afternoon free and one day dancing experience included. Day dancing includes dancing on the Malecon, attending a Rumba, or happy hour with your instructor at a local venue with live music and space for social dancing. The details will vary depending on your course of study and interests.
We leave room in your schedule for you to pace yourself and make it easy for you to add additional lessons, activities, and social dance nights to fit your style.

With all Clave Cuba programs you get high quality instruction and the benefits of a large group tour with the flexibility to travel on your own terms.
For comparison, 10 hours of private instruction in the US could cost you $750-$1500 without any social dancing or workshops included. Instead you are getting instruction from professionals at the source, supporting culture and the arts, and independent business in Cuba.
Every program booked is providing jobs for independent instructors in Cuba and 15% of the proceeds goes back into the communities you visit to support their projects.
Dance Intensives include private lessons with professional instructors from Tierra Kaliente, a night out dancing with instructors, day dancing sessions, and a personal coordinator as your host to keep everything running smoothly so that you can focus on having fun.
All of your accommodations and airport transfers are included and you get exclusive travel support that includes phone/text support before and during your trip, a local mobile phone for your use, and our mobile app that includes resources to help you prepare for your trip.
Before you travel and while you are there we will be on hand to make recommendations and help you add activities, lessons and more dancing to suit your style.
